A person I would like to meet
Vandana Shiva is PhD in physical sciences, philosopher, writer, and ecofeminist activist. That struggles against neoliberalism and defends the rights of peoples with an unconditional commitment to women and the earth.
She
describes the Earth as an entity that is part of the individual, and from this
relationship proposes she proposes to face issues such as climate change,
social inequality, injustice, wars, and hunger.
Vandana
Shiva is 68 years old, she is daughter of a park ranger and a farmer. When she
was 21 years old, she participated in a social movement that sought to protect
the Himalaya Forest with nonviolent resistance (embracing trees).
What I admire
most about this woman is her conviction and her strength to fight for a better
world for all. And above all, her ecofeminist vision to address problems that
have been happening from a patriarchal system and that now is the time to do
something different to have different results.
Shiva has
written some books that highlight the problems suffered by small farmers, the
problems with water, companies that privatize seeds, and her vision of how to
face capitalism through the “democracy of the Earth”. Such as Making Peace with
the Earth, Earth Democracy, Soil Not Oil, Staying Alive, Stolen Harvest, Water
Wars and Globalization’s New Wars.
It would
really be an honor to meet a woman like her.
